From the President
You will notice that the bidding boxes now have a laminated pass card in them. Please keep this card in the front of your pass cards, so it will always be the first pass card that you use when playing. Using the laminated pass card will protect the other pass cards. As I am sure you have noticed the pass cards age quickly through constant usage!
Thanks to our manager Kerry for undertaking the laminating amongst other duties.
Please enjoy your bridge and stay safe.

Beginner's Classes
Our next beginner’s classes start in August on 17 and 19 August. We have two sets of classes - Wednesday – 7pm to 9pm (generally for people who can't commit during the day) and Friday 10am to 12 noon. The classes run for 6 weeks. If you know someone who would like to learn to play bridge please tell them about our classes. They can register interest on the club website or by talking to the managers. The cost is $69.
Encouraging a younger cohort of players is beneficial and will ensure succession planning for our great game. So if you know someone that you think may be interested in learning please consider a gift of lessons or just plant the seed that face-to-face lessons kickoff in the middle of next month.
Seeking volunteers to assist in Supervised Sessions
We run supervised sessions on Wednesday evenings and Friday mornings. Morag is seeking volunteers to assist on Wednesday evenings.
Each week the supervised teacher gives a short lesson. We then run a duplicate where people can ask questions during the play. The role of the volunteer is to assist the teacher in responding to questions. Depending on numbers the volunteer may be asked to join a table.
If you are an experienced bridge player who is happy to help, please contact Morag Lokan on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
New to Bridge?
The Canberra Bridge Club is committed to supporting our newer bridge players.
We offer supervised play opportunities. We also provide support for newer bridge players who may be playing standard duplicates. We recognise that you may have questions about something that came up during a duplicate.
If you are new to bridge and would like to speak to an experienced bridge player about something that came up during a duplicate, please reach out to Morag Lokan. Morag is our novice co-ordinator. She is an experienced player. She is happy to respond to queries about a hand or help you analyse your results in a duplicate. She can also provide advice on upcoming lessons and upcoming competitions for newer players.

Lighter Moments
John Wayne's words of wisdom (thanks John Donovan)
1/ Money cannot buy everything but it is more comfortable to cry in a mercedes than on a bicycle
2/ Forgive your enemies, but do remember the bastard's name
3/ Help someone when they are in trouble, and they will remember you when they are in trouble again
4/ Many people are alive today only because it is illegal to shoot them (particularly partners who trump your ace)
5/ Alcohol does not solve any problems, but then again, neither does milk.
George Zuber's son co-directs Romeo and Juliet at the Canberra REP Theatre until 15 August. This is a wonderful production well spaced out. If you enjoy the theatre, check out the link and book a spot!
Collectively we are greater than the sum of our parts.
