From the President
As I am sure that you are all aware, the Club has a COVID plan. A copy is printed and displayed on the notice board in the entry hall. Part of that plan, is that there is only one person at a time in the kitchen. The kitchen is quite narrow, and to comply with social distancing, if one person is in the kitchen, then other persons wishing to use the kitchen must wait until the kitchen is free. It is not the job of the managers to police this rule.
Stay safe and enjoy your bridge.
Margaret

CBC pay Statements were issued by email on Wednesday so members can see how much credit they have for table money. Please check your statement and top-up if you are low. If you believe there is an error in the charges or deposits, please EMAIL This email address is being protected from spambots. Teams of Three
The 26 teams in this event created a happy buzz in the club last Sunday.
Sebastian Yuen directed the bridge - calmly and competently as always.
Thank you very much to the ever-helpful captains, many of whom have contributed for years.
Also deserving thanks are Susan Walters for catering work and others who brought food; and Miklos Tifan and others who were on standby as players and captains.
From the profits of the day and cash donations, the club raised about $950 for Beyond Blue.

Master Points from Grand Slam
With the closure of Grand Slam and many players moving into the ABF system, it was decided to promote those players with sufficient ratings to a level such that they would not be permitted to compete in easier competitions. Those above rating 58 were awarded the minimum points required to reach life master, and those with higher ratings even more, unless already at a sufficient level in the ABF masterpoint scheme.
Thus, a few were given gold life, a few silver life, a few bronze life and the remainder life master. This was based on a list from January. If you think you were over the required rating but were not promoted please contact the office (with evidence) and the state Masters Points secretary can arrange for you to be given the points.
Defence: Third Hand High by Joan Butt
- When partner leads, and dummy has played a card, you, the next person, “third hand”, needs to play as high as necessary to win the trick for their side.
- If third hand holds two or three honours of equal rank (eg ♥️QJ10), playing the “cheapest” of the equals (the ♥️10) is correct card play.
- Study dummy’s cards, and play only as high as is needed to win the trick, e.g. if you hold the ♥️1083, and see the ♥️962 in dummy, play the ♥️8 (no need for the ♥️10) if dummy calls for the ♥️2 or the ♥️6.
- Third hand should unblock with a doubleton honour when partner leads an honour (e.g. ♥️Q is led, and third holds ♥️K3, play the ♥️K on the ♥️Q lead, unblocking).
