From the President:
Our new committee year has started: let’s all play bridge with a smile – it makes people wonder what you have been up to.
Best wishes,
Pam
Perfume
A friendly reminder to please not wear perfume whilst at the Club, as some members have serious allergic/asthma reactions.
Bereavement
Peter Andersson 1927-2019
I would think that at least 50 members of this Club have played bridge with Peter Andersson. Many would have played a hundred or more.
Peter died on 1 October aged 91 at St Andrews Village. He started playing bridge in the 1960s. By the time I began in the late 70s he was already a stalwart of the Club.
He worked in the Australian Bureau of Statistics in IT and later for a while in the office of the Club. He had two children, Paul and Carole, but sadly Carole died far too young from cancer.
Besides bridge Peter loved the theatre and musicals. He was always travelling to Sydney and Melbourne for the latest productions. He also travelled regularly on the high seas for bridge or just for fun.
Dining and drinking wine were also high on the priority list. A lot of us have spent many late nights enjoying a few fine wines with our darling friend.
Peter’s popularity was shown by the number of Club members who visited him regularly in his last months. The staff often asked us who we all were!
What a fabulous guy.

2020 Charity for Canberra Bridge Club fundraising
We are pleased to announce Beyond Blue as our Club Charity for the 2020 year! Many will be familiar with what Beyond Blue do, but for those who are not...
[Beyond Blue is] equipping everyone in Australia with the knowledge and skills to protect their own mental health. We’re giving people the confidence to support those around them, and making anxiety, depression and suicide part of everyday conversations.
And as well as tackling stigma, prejudice and discrimination, we’re breaking down the barriers that prevent people from speaking up and reaching out.
We're here for everyone in Australia – at work, home, school, university, online, and in communities across the country.

As with all events, we could not do it without a team of volunteers. If you are able to help out on either Monday 4th November or Tuesday 5th November – please contact Michele Grant. The Melbourne Cup event page has a list of some areas you could help with.

Lighter Moments
Some CBC members are currently in New Zealand and struggling with language skills.
They flew there on a Sivven Sux Sivven, a large Boeing aircraft, left their suitcase at Beggage Chuckin, and are hoping they won’t need a McKennock to fix their car.
They are enjoying eating fush and fitter cheney, pasta that you may or may not recognise.
Pigs are for hanging washing. Pugs, however, are large pink animals with a curly tail.
(Any Kiwis are welcome to give some payback).
