Newsletter - 7 September 2018
From the President:
Thank you to John Hempenstall and Patricia McDonald, who have, with the assistance of our newly acquired steam device, cleaned all the chairs in the Barry Turner Room. If spillages occur now, please put the chair aside and let the manager (or the director) know so that we can deal with it promptly.
I am looking forward to seeing some of you on Saturday morning.
Best wishes,
Pam

AGM season is approaching:
To clarify for those who are unclear:
The Bridge Federation of the ACT is our ‘state’ body, to which we (Canberra BC), Capital BC, South Canberra BC, Cootamundra BC and Monaro (Cooma) BC are affiliated. BFACT’s AGM will be held on Sunday 16 September at about 5pm, at the conclusion of play in the Gala Pairs.
Please note that there will be a Special Resolution seeking to replace the BFACT Constitution. Read the new draft Constitution on the BFACT website; you can link to it from the CBC website.
This club is the Canberra Bridge Club.
Our AGM will be held on Tuesday 25 September at 5.30pm. Nomination forms are available at the club. Please show your support for the club by coming along.

Canberra in Bloom
Don’t forget that at the end of September you can play in our home grown Canberra in Bloom congress, either pairs or teams - or both. If you’ve never played in a congress this is a great one to start with. Each event has novice, restricted and open categories. A fun way to spend the long weekend. This year it’s being held at a new venue, the Gungahlin Club, part of the Eastlake group. More information is available at the website, by email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Or ask Justine Beaumont, or either Kerry or Emily (our managers).
Good luck to members travelling to Cowra this weekend for the Cowra & district congress.
Wanted: Spring produce
Thank you to all those who have brought in produce for sale at the Club! Lemons, Limes, Kiwifruit, Guava, Grapefruit, marmalade & more! They have been such a hit, and are going hotcakes!
Yes, we always want more! If you have an abundance of produce, please consider donating some to raise funds for the Club. We are grateful for every donation.
Thank you to our members & visitors for their honesty in paying for the produce on the foyer table.
Congratulations to Sean Mullamphy and Wendy Boxall, who won the Neura Bridge for Brains Research Challenge that was held in May. They scored 74.7% Australia-Wide.
Other Canberrans who scored well were Jim Ascione and Emlyn Williams 64.6%, Val Carmody and Margaret Kyburz 63.6%, Lyn Turner and Denise Gobes 60.6%, Maria and Vic Meakins 60.1%.
