Bridge Sessions over Christmas and New Year Period

Please note: The Canberra Bridge Club will host all normal sessions for each day and evening except for the following, which are the days and sessions the Club will be closed:

Summer Festival of Bridge - Results to-date:

Congratulations to:

• Andrew Spooner for placing 2^nd in the Australian Junior Team Selection in the Australian Youth Championships. Andrew paired with Tomer Libman from Sydney. Andrew will now represent Australia in the World Junior Championships to be held in Suzhou, China in August this year. A fantastic result for one of our Local Directors.

• Claire Hughes and Cathy Bywater for taking out first place in the ‘Rising Stars Pairs’ event yesterday. Well done Claire and Cathy, a great effort.

• Jeanette and Denis Grahame for taking out first place in the ‘Penline One-Day Swiss Pairs’ event yesterday. Well done Jeanette and Denis, another great effort.

 

Upcoming Competitions:

• CBC Butler Pairs (incorporating Ted Crichton Mixed Pairs & Red Masterpoints) - 4 Tuesday evenings, starting at 7.30pm, and commencing on 23^rd January through 30^th January, 6^th and 13^th February. A Butler pairs event open to all-comers. The entry list is on the BT Room Notice Board.

• State Matchpoint Pairs (Red Masterpoints) - 4 Thursday evenings, starting at 7.30pm, and commencing on 25^th January through 1^st, 8^th & 15^th February. A matchpoint pairs event open to all-comers. The entry list is on the BT Room Notice Board. 

• FRIDAY AFTERNOON – 19^th January - Nationwide Pairs

Reminder – renewals of membership – NOW OVERDUE!

Please note, renewal of 2018 membership is now overdue. If you have not already renewed your membership, can you please do so ASAP. You can pay by EFTPOS (on-line banking  direct to CBC Bank account), details being:

Keith’s bridge playing experiences :

Unfortunately last week was not a good result for my partner and I. In one of our hands, when my partner was ‘Dummy’ and after laying her hand down on the table, I confirm to my partner that my name is Keith, not Sampson!

However, on the very next hand when I lay my hand on the table as ‘Dummy’, which may have been ever so slightly weaker than expected, my partner exclaims “Where is the hand you held during the bidding?!”

After a few more adverse hand results that morning, my partner made the following encouraging comment, “You know, you may not be the worst player in the world.........but if that person should die.......”

Notice for all Supervised Players

December 2017 - January 2018

Please note, Barb, Jeanette and Ann are taking a break over the summer period.  However, supervised sessions will continue throughout, but without the lesson beforehand.

There will be a volunteer to look after you, an experienced player who will be there to help organise the session and to assist you.

These sessions are designed to give you lots of play practice over the summer period.

Monday evenings will still begin at 7pm and Thursday mornings will commence with duplicate at 10am.

It is important that you arrive at the Club and are seated 15 minutes before the start of the session, so the Director can arrange the movement.

Please Note:
